FAA Closing RC and Free Flight model fields down

I know I have talked about this before but now the nightmare has come true. The FAA showed up at a huge AMA sanctioned event for RC jets observed the event and promptly shut down the flying site in Van Nuys CA. that has been active since the 30’s without incident to the nearby Van Nuys airport in all that time.

If that wasn’t enough they close the Free Flight rubber powered airplanes field adjacent to the RC field as well.

Then the idiots with there long winded speeches about saying it was about time they took down these menace “Toy” airplanes out of the sky to make way for “Real Airplanes” started in.

First they are real airplanes. Last time I checked they look like a airplane and fly in the air like a airplane. So they are a real airplane. I could go on but I won’t bore you.

I found this month’s issue of Model Aviation Magazine to be most effective against the “Toy Airplanes” morons and I use it every chance I get because it is the best example ever to why our hobby is so important and why young people should be taught and mentored about the hobby. I need not say more.

I rest my case. Toy airplanes? Really?

If you want to read the whole article it’s on my photobucket account. I used it to interest the local school district about our FAC group and how we can get the local kids interested in the hobby. We were ignored. Maybe I should show them “Flight of the Phoenix” another best case scenario.

Just open each image in a new tab by right clicking and selecting. You can then zoom in to read it.

Lastly trying to police this is a joke. I am laughing at the authorities who can’t police the use of texting and driving which is killing more people than drinking and driving. Just fly smart and off their radar. As for the contests the people running them will have diplomatic and creative.

In closing it’s OK for me to own a gun which far worse can be done with than a model airplane but I can’t fly my models?

The real deal here is we are a threat to the upcoming and recently FAA approved Amazon delivery drones. And then there’s the Uber air taxi.

BTW they are closing a lot of fields and also glider hills and slopes where we fly radio controlled silent gliders.

But that’s OK you can still have your gun and drive down the freeway with total want and disregard texting and driving at speeds of 100 miles mph and passing people on the right in the bike lane. I know this is true because it just happened to me on Hwy 1.

What the actual f***? I mean, what were you guys hurting by flying model planes and especially non powered gliders? As you said, you were flying at low altitudes in relatively confined areas. Also like you said, way worse stuff goes on than that. I knew the US government had their heads up their asses, but this takes it to a whole new level.
