1940’s Wakefield Free Flight Airplane

I got this kit for a song back in Nov. and it was originally kitted in the 1940’s. It’s a free flight plane and is quite the flyer.

I love free flight. No electronics, support equipment, batteries, just the grace of free flight. You wind it up and let it go and watch her fly. This is how it all began and it’s still very popular.

It takes a lot of skill to get a free flight plane to fly and fly well. It’s quite and art and I have always wanted to do it. I have built so many RC model airplanes I couldn’t count them all if I tried. It’s nice to go back to basics.

I have several kits to build but I decided to do this one first. It has a 45 inch span. Big for free flight.

I just started framing her up today and enjoyed every last minute of it.

More to come….

Parts are printed and indented but you have to cut them out yourself. Today everything is laser cut but in the forties this is how it was done,

Slingsby Prefect update

Got a lot more done on the little RC converted freeflight glider Slingsby. Everything is working on it and she’s ready to fly. Started the paint job today. She will be done soon now.
