Friday fun!

It was kinda of a laid back day at the studio today. Isaac came in and got the Yamaha keyboard working for me and set up to one of my computers so I can record music I keep hearing for our TV pilot. Much better than whistling on the iPhone which I did for the shows theme. Now I can send Tommie something more intelligible.

Gisell and Sameria came in and worked more on the sculptures both Deadpool and the baby.

And I worked hard on getting the first casting of the “Iron Giant” head to a finished look. For now anyway. Basic lighting of the eyes but later they can be turned from blue to red to the warm color you see here. In addition he will be able to move his jaw and neck.

Koby I will call you tomorrow about your idea. Today just got away from me trying to get this head preened up, lighted and painted.

I even got the neck made. It’s made of soft foam with PVC neck rings. It’s very flexible and next week will have a spine in the middle operated my 3 servos for movement.

What happened on Thursday

More of the same but a lot more progress on the submarine. I got this satin black and I’m not happy with it. I’m hoping today when I go in that it has dried completely and flattened  a bit. If not I’ll go with flat black and clear coat it. I opened up the bridge and some of the mast openings on the sail and did a lot of seam filling and sanding.

The”Iron Giant” first casting from my molds is pointed up pretty well now. In addition to that I vacuum formed the eyes, frosted them and placed them in the head. They pop in for a perfect fit. I just put it over a LED desk lamp to have a look at how they will appear when lighted.

If I choose to make eye lids there is a problem. Being that he was a cartoon, you  can do magical things not possible in the real world. Like have eyelids appear from nowhere. That’s right if the eyes are mounted properly as they appear in the film there is no space to have moving eyelids.

The only thing that can or could be done is to recess the eyes back from the socket they fit in by an 1/8 of an inch and place the eye lids top and bottom connected to a servo. We’ll see. Food for thought.

Samira and Giselle worked on Deadpool and the Visitor baby. On Deadpool today we will  cast  just the eye sections and from that make bucks to vacuum form over before finishing the mask sculpt for molding. You’ll get what we are doing as you follow along.

If you don’t know please click on the pictures to see larger full images. There is,on the bottom right hand corner of every picture, once clicked on,a button to enlarge them full sized. I find most people don’t know this and only look at the mosaic. Now you know. 😉
