I’m not quite sure if you read the comments here any more, but I’ll give it a go…

I’ve just seen the latest video on YouTube (that hasn’t made it here yet) and you spoke about how you and Mary managed to find that silver fabric – which looks great by the way – as does the rest of the refurb!

Anyway, you mentioned that you can’t paint it black because it’ll eventually chip off. Normally that would be true, but there is a way to do it so that it doesn’t come off at all, no matter what you do to it – and it’s quite easy to do. So if you still want to paint it black, this is how you could tackle it – it’s something I’ve done before and it worked a treat.

Thin down contact cement so that it’s brushable, add black paint to it, or any black pigment will do, then simply brush it on. Because it’s thinned, it self levels, so you don’t get brush marks. Once it’s set up, you can come back to it and airbrush another layer of standard black paint to the stuff that’s already down and you’ll have a perfectly bonded new layer of black colouring on there.

It’s something for you to think about if you decide that you’re not too keen on the silver, so it give you and Doug some options.

    Good luck.
