Wow, this is a great project to see, Steve and it has a special place in my heart as well because it’s from the first movie that I ever saw at the cinema… I was four years old at the time!!!
The second movie that I went to see (a year later) was The Empire Strikes Back.
Can’t wait to see how this puppet, dolly, over-sized action figure will turn out – fantastic, I’m sure!
After seeing the beard on Kirk in the picture you were using as reference I thought I would try and find some info on the reason behind this. Here is the result of my search.

“Although the figure’s head is a likeness of William Shatner, production later added a mustache and beard so this model could be reused in the scene where V’ger attacks a space station and overtakes a desperate worker on the outer hull.”
