The Bop goes Pop!

Been working the entire day on a 220 frame 7 second or so shot where I fire back and blow up the Romulan BOP. Volumetrics are a real drag on rendering time and careful balance. This is the angle on the main viewing screen on the bridge. Next will be to pull an in space side angle from the same setup.

I wanted to get away from the old real fire elements of explosions over the models. As this has been dome so much and in space it’s a vacuum, free fall and different. I looked at a lot of declassified video of nukes detonated in space for reference.

More later on this week we are on a role here.

Nice! I like the idea of referencing the nuke data. I’ve looked at those and it is pretty amazing. I like the expanding wreckage too – gonna be very cool.

Yeah, fiery explosions in space is way overdone and not at all accurate. Back in the physical model days, it was necessary to do those, because you had to actually explode something. However, with CGI, you can do it as realistic as you want, but people clearly don’t want to. I like that you’re breaking the cycle and going more realistic. The pics look fantastic. 🙂
