TOS Film Project Update

First it’s time to set the record straight on the incredible talent I have helping me with this project.

1. Matt Boardman: A fantastic Lightwave jokey and our VFX supervisor. He’s one of the talents from Doug’s crew on Blood and Chrome.

Currently he’s organizing the crew and shots as well as taking on the task of building our Neptune station model and more.
2. Chris Martin AKA Evil Genius: Who made our Enterprise and USS Drexler constitution class Stars ships and our Dry dock. Some of you will know his TOS Enterprise model from the new SOTL Calender.

Click on the above image of Chris Martin’s incredible Star Gazer
3. Tony and Alex Bruno: A talented father and Son team doing CGI shots and animation as well as compiling models and texturing and more.

Click on the above image for a larger picture of Tony’s render of the USS Drexler. She’s still not finished but close. This is the first time in Star Trek History that we have ever seen the USS Drexler!
4. David Clarke: Again an extremely talented 3D jokey and modeler extraordinaire! To see his latest work check this link out:

David is currently working on the Drexlers encounter with the Romulan ship and more.

And Craig Buckaroohawk Frey:  famous for his great cover on the new SOTL Calender. He’s the guy that did the great new designed BOP or Bird of Prey.

These guys are doing fantastic work and as time allows I will post some of the animation test and more stills to wet your appetites.

Me? I’m directing, editing, mixing and doing all the green screen bridge shots and if these guys leave me a CGI shot…I’ll take it! LOL!

Much more to come and a trailer soon with Doug’s distress call in place and finished.

BTW Jack Marshall lent us a hand with some great smoke and fire sparks for the bridge Doug is on. Thanks Jack and thanks Doug! As usual he’s been a huge help on this project. No one does star Trek better than Doug!

Also thanks again to Will Smith for the fantastic bridge screen graphics which added so much to the look of my bridge set!

And yes we do plan to do this all over again in a second longer effort. More on that later. 😉

Doug Drexler gives a Distress call…

Here’s Doug before and after the comp. This shot has been rendered and nearly finished but I’m not going to be posting the clip. It will be in the trailer I’ll be cutting as soon as I get some more shots done and some effects. I have Matt Boardman, Chris Martin, David Clark, Tony Bruno and his son Alex, and Craig Frey all working and helping on the VFX.

Will Smith did the bridge screen animated graphics which really go a long way to making the bridge look so good. Thanks Feek44(AKA Will).

Here is a frame grab from Digital fusion layout. Enjoy.

Video of the Bridge Test

It’s only a bridge test!

I’ve been at Digital fusion, Premiere and Lightwave coming up with a sure fire system for matting into the bridge so I can proceed ahead with the many shots and angles.

It takes matching the camera angle and lighting of the practical shoot to the CGI set in Lightwave. I used the CGI chair to get my distance and angle the same, match lighting. Then I would remove the CGI chair. run off a single frame and place that into Digital and pull a comp. I’d keep doing this until I was happy then had Lightwave run off the background animation.

The clip test is 8 seconds long and I hope to post it tonight.

Here are a couple of pictures, one a frame test and the other shows the Digital fusion set up which I prefer over AE for comps hands down. UltraKeyer1 rocks!

Behind the scenes

Here is a little peak behind the scenes of our little shoot.

The actual shoot was done at 1080p and we used a good sound recorder not reflected in this video.

Next up is shooting the Big E model herself.

Bird of Prey Test

Craig “Buckaroohawk” designed and built this model. Some of you will know Craig for his cover he made for the  2012 Ships of the Line Calender using Chris Martin’s TOS E and Dennis Bailey’s refit. He just did a once over on it and sent me some new maps and I dropped it into lightwave and WOW!

Well now you know the short film has a Romulan BOP in it, But there’s more surprises to come. BTW Doug Drexler will be playing the part of the Captain of the USS Drexler. Slowly this project is getting our of control and more people are diving in to be part of it.

More soon. We do the green screen with me and the Romulan commander on Friday. I will post video.

Steve

Please watch this in 720p and full screen for a real treat!
