Thrake mask revisited

My old school friend Mike McLeod dreamed up this character for one of his books. Originally it had 5 eyes but somewhere along the line I made a mask based on it for a TV show which later led to a Mask company selling them. They called it Seemore. Recently the fans of mask collecting found out I was the original sculptor and asked if I’d bring it back. And I am. But he’s a bit different once again.

Here’s the original mask based on Mike’s design I did in the early 70s.

And here’s the mask I made in the 80s for a show I did in Japan. Foam rubber with moving brows and eyes.

And here’s the rough clay sculpture started of the new mask. More soon.

How good to see that the Thrake is still around! My original idea was that there were a set of two visable light sensitive eyes, two ultraviolet light eyes, and the large infrared eye in the forehead.

I like the new one too, especially since it looks tough. The Thrakes were from a heavy gravity planet and were supposed to be pit bulls, though intelligent spacefaring people.
