The Enterprise is back!

Finally fixed all those light leaks. Re-touching the white paint. Next to do all the painted details and last those many, many Aztec decals and she’s done?

Here’s a short video. You’ll notice the nacelles are sealed and seamed. If I ever have to get in there I can but it will cause me some work to fix afterwords. so I hope I never do. As I understand it LEDs have a long live. I just couldn’t stand the seams showing there. It was the only way.

Mercury is finished…and back to the Enterprise

Finally I’m finished with the Mercury Capsule. I’m back at the Enterprise and will finish her next.

Here’s some pictures of the finished capsule. I must say this is a really great model. Built one!

One thing about this model that will drive anyone nuts is the decals that go on the retro pack. Good grief what an ordeal. Everyone of those stripes are put on one at a time. Nearly, and I say nearly impossible. And it you look around the net you will find many a builder who did them half way or not at all. The real Friendship 7 had them! As did all of them after Liberty Bell. And if you think you can get away with Liberty bell or Shepard’s capsule to save yourself this grief think again. Their capsules didn’t have the window this one has. They were different and have to me modified and scratch built. You may loose all the work of doing the stripes but you gain the work of scratch building.

Models, models

Trying to get this Mercury capsule finished up before a customer build starts of the Seaview. Then I have another customer build to do of a German type 23 coastal U-boat from WW2.

The X-1 is finished. Well for now. I may do more to it. She’s kind of too pretty. Guess she was just painted right?

And the Mercury capsule is getting close. The interior was rather sparse so I added a lot of scratch built details like cable and conduits. Breaker boxes and other small parts inside it was missing. The astronaut has his base coat of silver. I placed the big decals on but now I need to ad all those small ones. Not to mention all those stripes on the retro pack! Yikes!

And tomorrow I’ll add all the small painted details the capsule had. Lucky for me I have good reference pictures of the real thing.

Got two more CGI shots of the lizard aliens for Foo Fighters. All week I’m doing additional shots that take hours to render. The end sequence just needed more fill and shots of the aliens I felt were missing.

All and all a good day.

More updates

I’m cutting a new longer trailer for Foo fighters and it should be posted next week. Lots of thrills and visual effects scenes.

The X-1 needs decals next and it’s done. It was white primered before the international orange was applied just like the real X-1s that were sent to Edwards. Originally they were just white and painted over with the orange for higher visibility. It worked because the color is exact although these pictures make it look a bit off. Some day light pictures once I get the decals on should show the color better.

The Mercury capsule is coming along great and most of the model is built. But I plane to do a bit longer build on the interior and add extra scratch built parts missing from the kit.

Foo Fighters and models

Foo Fighters is really looking good. I have edited the film as far as I can go. All the way to the end and got my first look at the entire feature today. I have to do some pick ups and add a bit more CG. We have a one day shoot for the pilots at the crash site. Tomorrow I’m making a new trailer which will show a vast array of the different things from the film. Aliens and all.

Tonight before bad time I got a bunch more done on the Mercury capsule. Tomorrow night the X-1 gets it’s primer and a bit more on the Mercury.

Such a good time!

1/12 Mercury Capsule

This is another gift I received from Gilly for Christmas. And while things set up and dry on the X-1 I figured why not start it. As soon as it’s done I can finish the 1/350 Enterprise.

This has to be the best model ever made of this capsule. Big. Accurate and even the panels can be lite. All the components come apart so every part of this vehicle can be seen. Just getting it started. Lots of pre-painting before I can do assemblies.

More as I go along.
